Niobium sheet is the lightest refractory metal density 8 57 g cc and has a high melting temperature 2 468ºc. This property allows its alloys to provide structural solutions at high temperatures. Ultra high purity and high purity forms also include metal powder submicron powder and nanoscale quantum dots targets for thin film deposition pellets for evaporation and single crystal. Mining and uses for niobium are relatively new compared to common alternatives and new applications are still being discovered.

Stability stable conditions contributing to unstability nb metal is rapidly dissolved by hydrofluoric acid hydrofuoric nitric acid mixture. Nb is used in pure and alloyed form in superconductors sodium vapor lamps street lights rocket boosters and other aerospace applications. Niobium also known as columbium is a ductile metal that is most commonly used as a strong structural steel alloy. Niobium also known as columbium is number 41 on the periodic table.

Niobium nb is named after niobe daughter of tantalus. Higher than 600ºc in nickel based alloys and as high as 1 300ºc in niobium based alloys. It has many properties that make it an excellent candidate for fabricated parts that must be made of a refractory metal. Niobium is a chemical element symbol nb.

The niobium atom has a radius of 146 pm and a van der waals radius of 207 pm. With a melting point of 2468 c it qualifies as a refractory metal. Niobium is naturally hypoallergenic and commonly used in a number of medical devices including prosthetics and implants such as pacemakers. Nb ignites in cold fluorine and above 200 c will react exothermically with chlorine bromine and halocarbons such as carbon tetrachloride carbon tetrafluoride and freons.
